"Hi! I'm Brooklyn! People also call me Baby Shark."
As soon as he finished speaking, Baby Shark watched as every fish in the park fled, making sure to avoid him. They hid in the seaweed, the coral, and even the dark depths of the water. Whether young or old, all the fish disappeared seemingly in an instant. "Operation: Make Friends" had failed time after time for a full week now. The only one to see Baby Shark's eyes fill with sadness was a single crab who had scarcely been able to hide behind a rock in time. It stuck its head out from behind the rock and stared at Baby Shark for a moment before quickly running away and hiding in the sand. Once again, Baby Shark found himself alone. Why did everyone go to such lengths to avoid Baby Shark? It had been days since Baby Shark arrived in Seaweed Village, and yet no one seemed at all willing to open themselves up to him. Today, just as the days before, he was left alone in the park. In an attempt to relieve some of his sadness, Baby Shark started to sing to himself. "Baby Shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo." As he sang, something miraculous happened. One by one, the fish of Seaweed Village began to gather around him. The melody seemed to pierce the walls they had put up around their hearts, and their fear began to be replaced by love. The moment Baby Shark stopped singing, everyone broke into a loud applause. The fish of Seaweed Village were finally allowing themselves to open up. After that day, Baby Shark would sing a song at an intersection in Seaweed Village each morning. He sang joyfully and with all the strength he had. No one in the village avoided him anymore. Everyone that passed him at the intersection would automatically start to sing along, mumbling "doo doo doo doo doo doo" as they went. Everyone, that is, except for one fish. There was one fish who, each morning, would plug both his ears and walk by Baby Shark as quickly as possible, a frown always on his face. When everyone else would listen closely to Baby Shark's song, that one fish would try move past Baby Shark as fast as he could. He did it every morning, and always looked as though he was the unhappiest fish in the world. He would always carry a book with him, and one time Baby Shark was able to catch a glance of the book's name. It was... "SAT Study Guide".
It was a day as grey as any other. The quiet building was filled with nothing more than the sound of pencils and pens hurriedly scribbling on paper. I raised my head for a moment and looked out the window. That yellow thing was singing on the intersection again, just like every other day.
Didn't someone once say the devil sometimes appears as an angel? That naive little angel has completely thrown my life into chaos. Baby shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo! It never ends... It just keeps repeating in my head... When I shower in the morning, when I open my book to study, when I'm doing homework... That song won't stop playing! I suddenly became upset and put down my pen. Can life also be divided into correct and incorrect answers? I had always supposed my life was close to being the "correct answer," but ever since I first saw that yellow thing a few days ago, I became overcome for the first time by a feeling of uncertainty. He sings there freely every day, living a life that is the exact opposite of mine. That means my life might be incorrect. I come here every day to give and solve incorrect answers, so maybe it shouldn't be a surprise that my life itself is... incorrect. "Doo doo doo doo doo doo! A part of the song suddenly played in my head. The song sung by that little yellow shark, the song he loves so much. That song suddenly started playing in my head, and I couldn't stop it. I still had so much studying to finish, but now I couldn't get that song out of my head... It was strange, though. My mind suddenly started to feel at ease. Doo doo doo doo doo doo! Baby shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo! I gave up fighting it and decided to give in, and it felt as though I suddenly rediscovered the curiosity I felt as a kid. I would be taking a test that could very well influence my future, and yet somehow... I felt at peace.
"Today, I'm going to make sure he hears my song!"
Baby Shark's song rang through the village from the early morning. The residents of the village were delighted to hear it as he sang even more cutely and energetically than before. However, the one fish who carried a thick book with him wherever he went was just as grumpy, if not grumpier, than before. He avoided Baby Shark as he quickly went to study. Why did the fish with the book refuse to listen to Baby Shark's song? His studying would have been more effective if he had been taking breaks. As Baby Shark hummed to himself, he looked behind and saw a far-off billboard. It said... "SMARTSTUDY"...? He instantly liked the name. It seemed to suggest we should all be smart as we continually strive to improve ourselves. SMARTSTUDY... It was a name that he could see gaining popularity not just in Seaweed Village, but in Clam Village, Coral Village, Jellyfish Village... and even the world! On the other hand, "SAT Study Guide" seemed like such a boring name. The thought occurred to Baby Shark that maybe the fish didn't enjoy his song because he was forced to read that book every day. So Baby Shark decided he would sing in a way that was so fun and exciting that the fish wouldn't be able to resist enjoying them! He started singing with everything he had, holding back nothing. The fish with the book had always plugged his ears as he passed, but at some point he stopped, as though he had given up. He even started humming the song's melody, which made Baby Shark very happy. However, the fish with the book, who had passed by the same crossing every morning, suddenly stopped showing up. A month passed, then two months, then three... Where had the fish gone? Baby Shark had all but given up looking for him when he suddenly appeared again one day. The shark was so happy to see the fish, he started singing even more energetically than before. The fish seemed to have grown a bit, and the "SAT Study Guide, 2019 Edition" he had been holding now said "2020 Edition". Baby Shark assumed that because the number had gotten bigger, the fish had done well on the previous test and was now taking a higher, more advanced version of the test. He felt somehow proud of the fish. And so today, as with every other peaceful day in Seaweed Village, Baby Shark sings his happy song, while the residents of the village hum and sing along with him. Baby Shark made a lot of friends, and Grandma Shark, Daddy Shark, Mommy Shark, and Grandpa Shark were all happy for him. And he was happy, because he had friends he could rely on. He sang while thinking of them. "Baby shark, doo doo doo doo doo doo..."
