“There are different colored gems, each with different properties. For example, the red gems you get from Phantom Forest are filled with life energy. Equipping three of them at once will boost an Astromon's HP. Different Astromons like gems of different shapes, they all have their own preferences, just like how some humans dislike carrots or green peppers. As your adventure continues, there'll come a time when you feel stuck. When they do, try taking advantage of the gems you've collected. Equip your Astromons with gems to power them up, then upgrade the gems to increase that power several times over. You'll need to come to me to upgrade them. I'll help you as best I can!”
— Tina
Gems come with a grade from 1 to 6
that determines their strength. They can then be upgraded up to +15. Upgrades strengthen the main property of each gem, and at upgrade levels 3, 6, 9, and 12 a random bonus property is added, called a sub-stat. At level 15, the gem's main property receives a huge boost, double the usual upgrade.
It costs money to unequip gems. Consider upgrading gems till they get 4 sub-stats before you equip them for mid to late game players. For example: One may get a 6star gem with 2 subs. Upgrade it to +6 to unlock the other 2 subs, if they are good then equip it, you might be losing gold upgrading but you might save more gold by not having to later unequip it.[1]
Shapes[]
Gem slots come in three shapes: ,
, and
and can only hold gems of the same shape. The shapes of an Astromon's gem slots are randomly assigned when the Astromon is born.
Some stats can only be obtained on certain shapes:
- Critical Hit Damage can only be found on
- Critical Hit Rate can only be found on
- Resistance can only be found on
Tips for deciding which gems to equip[]
A monster can only have a net total of 85% resistance at max.[2]
In general, look for these subs: resistance, % instead of flat (if your monsters are high level), and critical chance/damage for attackers is nice.[3]
Sets[]
Each Astromon can equip up to three gems. If all three gems are the same color, the Astromon will benefit from a special set bonus. Gems of different colors drop in different regions. If you're trying to get gems of a certain color, remember to check in advance which gems drop where. See the table below for set bonuses and regions.

Upgrading[]
The expected total cost for upgrading a 6* gem from 0 to +15 is 1,635,535.35[4]
A player can figure out the expected cost of upgrading a gem by using this formula: Cost of upgrade * 1 / % chance of success. Example: 800 * 1 / 80% (upgrading a 1* to +4).
See the table below for upgrade chances.

Sub-Stats[]
Gems can come up with 0 to 4 sub-stats. Sub-stats will be added at upgrades +3, +6, +9 and +12 until it reaches 4 sub-stats. Once the gems has 4 sub-stats, those upgrades will increase a random sub-stat instead of adding a new one. See the table below for possible sub-stats increase according to the gem grade.

Sell Price[]
Gems can be sold for gold depending on their gem grade, number of sub-stats, and the gem set. Conversely, gems cost more to buy if they have more sub-stats.
To sell gems in bulk: Go to Monsters > Manage > At the bottom left you can select which grade of gems you want to bulk sell or you can tap on the gem manually and it will checkmark it. When you're done tap on the Sell Selected.

While most gem sets are priced the same way, there are some exceptions:

---|---|
Life | x0.95 |
Ruin | x1.10 |
Intuition | x1.05 |
Pugilist | x1.20 |
Leech | x1.20 |
Siphon | x1.20 |
Healer | x1.20 |
Magi | x1.20 |
In some cases (specifically the Life and Intuition gem sets), the price costs 1 gold less than the end sum of BasePrice X GemSetMul. "BasePrice" being the price based on the Sub-Stat vs Grade table, and "GemSetMul" being the multiplier based on the gem set.
Note: Gem upgrades of any kind do not affect the gem's sell price.
