Indra controls it using techniques he learned from his mentor. His mentor was the strongest person he had ever met, having destroyed with a single blow a giant plant that seemed to fill the very sky itself. Upon seeing this, Indra, who had been seeking pure power at the time, was immediately filled with both fascination and respect for the man. Their meeting was by chance, but what followed was fate. When there was something he didn't understand, he would seem to get angry, but then sometimes would sit down, close his eyes, and be still for days. Worried that his mentor might have stopped breathing, Indra shook Shiva and almost got his head lopped off in the process. Much later, Shiva said he was "watching" change take place in the world. When Indra asked what that meant, his mentor thought hard for a while, but didn't end up telling him anything. Recently, Indra had been having two recurring dreams, one about a giant snake's eye, and one about steel wings shining in the blue sky. He wondered whether it was related to his calling, or if it was some other sort of revelation. Unable to draw any conclusions himself, he approached his mentor, fully expecting to get reprimanded for focusing on something so frivolous. Instead, Shiva fell into silent contemplation. Indra was hoping this meant he had answers, but Shiva ultimately said nothing. Several days later, Indra woke in the morning to find his mentor gone. Thinking perhaps Shiva had urgent business to attend to, Indra stayed there and waited for his return. Several seasons passed, but Shiva did not come back. Shiva had taught Indra about the basics of controlling his power, but the finer details were things that Indra learned himself. His mentor's whereabouts were still unknown, so Indra began to travel around in the hopes of hearing any news or rumors about a man who wielding the power of destruction. When he didn't hear or find anything, he decided to stop looking. Worrying about the safety of his mentor somehow seemed presumptuous, and he realized it would be better for him to work as to not disappoint Shiva when they did meet again one day. It was there that he discovered a small girl who wielded a ring-like weapon larger than her own body. Normally, something like that would not have caught his attention, but the power she used was somehow familiar. The method she used to control the floating ring was exactly the same method he had learned from his master. The girl sat on her ring and floated up in the air. He couldn't tell if she was being extremely cautious or just naturally defensive, but she wouldn't let him near her. She had a blank expression on her face even when she began to attack him with her ring, which was now on fire. He tried several times to communicate that he didn't want to hurt her, but it was only several hours later, when his clothes began to look more like burnt rags, that she seemed to believe him. The girl could not understand a word Indra said. He became frustrated, convinced she was somehow connected to his mentor but unable to ask her about it. He sat at a distance and tried pantomiming to get his points across, but eventually gave up once he began to feel like an idiot. He instead started to make his vajra swoosh around the air, and upon seeing this, the girl's emotionless expression gave way to a slight sign of curiosity. It was not quite the reaction he had hoped for, but he felt he had been led to that location, so perhaps her fate was intertwined with his. He couldn't speak her language, but he needed to make some connection if he ever hoped to find his mentor. Of course, it wasn't just that--there was a soft spot within him taht wouldn't allow him to just leave this girl by herself. He was never one to feel like he had to protect anything, but the two of them still hadn't gone to that tempura place in Drisden, and he wasn't going to let the world end before they did. A giant pillar of light shot up from the divided earth and straight through the clouds. Indra saw his mentor standing with his back to him and all five "eyes" out and ready. In front of Shiva was a woman with an eye patch, laughing maniacally. Indra had no idea what was going on, but he yelled to his mentor. "Where have you been, and what are you doing here?!" He wanted to add, "Look how strong I've become with the strength you taught me!", but the words never left his mouth. His mentor remained silent. Suddenly the earth shook with great force, distinctly signaling that the end of the world was near. When came out from the pillar of light was a giant snake, its ebony scales flowing upward through the sky like a dark river. It breathed out fire that scorched the earth. Indra knew that this was the snake he saw in his dream, and he realized this was the "confrontation" he had felt called to. His dreams had always ended with him being ripped apart by the snake's poisonous fangs, but now he was not alone. As soon as the glint of steel wings tore through the air, a destructive light began to sunder the earth. Suddenly overcome by a sense of confidence stronger than he had ever felt, Indra began to focus his lightning into his vajra.
