Despite these Astromons' cute appearance, they are surprisingly hostile and should be approached with caution. They can often be seen setting up defenses in their colonies to guard against the many predators that live in the barren snowfields.
Penarches live in packs who establish large colonies that can house hundreds. Although they are towards the bottom of the Glacial Plains' food chain, they can become vicious when backed into a corner, making them hard targets for predators.
These Astromons have the ability to instantly freeze objects, which they use to freeze the ground and slide on it as a means of transportation. It may also seem like an effective way to obstruct a predator's path, but in reality predators in the region attack so swiftly that there is rarely enough time for these Astromons to use their ability.
Wood Penpens can slide a bit further then other types of Penpens. Of course, they still can't fly, but it is worth noting they use power of wind to propel themselves when sliding.
You may be inclined to laugh if you see these Astromons flapping their wings in place, not moving anywhere, but they are genuinely trying to fly. They become particularly sensitive when they see other Astromons that can fly, so make sure to treat them kindly.
There are times when these Astromons, normally thought to be weak, can show a very different side of themselves. Wood Penarchs are closer to the bottom of the food chain, but their agility enables them to rescue those in mountainous areas with greater effectiveness that anyone else.
Penpens with the power of light are very rare because the orbital cycles of light and dark stars are long, and it can take quite some time for them to gather power. As such, light Penpens are generally thought to be special.
A Penki's wings are firm, and while they are not fitted for flying, they enable a Penki to swim with great speed.
The more experienced a Penarch is, the larger and flashier the feather on its head will be. Leaders have beautiful feathers that inspire respect from the rest of their pack.
Dark Penpens mainly live in shaded areas and move in stealth to avoid the detection of predators. Caution goes hand in hand with survival.
Despite popular belief, light does not symbolize order, nor does dark symbolize chaos, though it is true they are related. For example, dark Astromons are instinctively comfortable in the Aurora Plains, which are full of chaotic energy.
"Light that is too strong will blind the eye, and darkness that is too thick will swallow all. Certain destruction, despite its horror, is enchanting in its intensity." -From the writings of the Great Master Frederick.
