In the land of Lien, there is not really the concept of "religion". It is said the world was created by two goddesses, "Fuhsi" and "Nuwa"", but this is generally accepted as a myth-almost no ones believes they actually exist, save for a selected efw who have received "callings". Those who have received callings innately know what they have experienced is divine, and she was no exception.
The calling she received was to act as a witness of the divine to all the earth. This troubled the woman, for there was a wide variety of possible methods to fulfill her calling, and yet it would be difficult to produce any visible results that she had succeeded. With belief in the goddesses all but lost in the modern age, trying to convince others that they exist would only make her seem entertaining at best, or ridiculous at worst. It would be easier to create a religion, but to do that, she would need some sort of concrete proof.
Several years had passed since she began traveling around in search of concrete proof of the goddesses' existence. At the end of almost unspeakable hardships, she discovered a small clue among the writing in a temple on a remote precipice of the Marble Mountains. "...Thus, Nuwa headed westward..." As soon as the woman read about the goddess Nuwa, her eyes lit up with renewed conviction.

As Sanzang came down from the Marble Mountain precipice lost in thought, she was suddenly interrupted by a nearby commotion. She looked to her side to see a yokai with a long tail taking a drink from a stream. He had with him only a rod and a worn-looking outfit, and yet she could feel he was undeniably powerful.
"A yokai here on the Marble Mountains...?They normally hate the positive energy that flows through here...How odd," she thought, As she stared at him, the yokai turned his head, and their eyes met.
As soon as they looked at each other, Sanzang felt as if time had stopped. Everything around them turned white, and in that state of selflessness, it was as though the very essence of the two became intertwined. They immediately understood each other's callings, upon which the yokai's eyes opened wide."
"Y-you..." Sanzang also knew. The two now shared a fate.
The yokai said his name was Sun Wukong, and that he had wandered all across Lien in search of Sanzang. As he spoke, he seemed to almost complain, which oddly made him feeld immediately familiar. Sanzang had never thought her calling would be linked with someone else's, but such a powerful yokai helping her would make things considerably easier. For now, the most important matter at hand was heading westward in search of Nuwa.
